Quarterly Inter-Scorer Reliability (ISR) Assessment

We evaluate scoring consistency across sleep technologists on a quarterly basis in four key areas:

sleep staging, arousals, respiratory events, and limb movements. This process enables us to:

  • Monitor and enhance scoring accuracy and uniformity.
  • Identify training needs and calibrate technologist performance.
  • Ensure full compliance with American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) standards.

AASM ISR Program Participation

Our team participates monthly in the AASM’s ISR “gold standard” testing: each technologist scores a standardized set of 200 epochs, feedback is instant, and any scorer not meeting thresholds receives targeted remediation. This structured process also supports our sleep lab and physician-sign-off accreditation efforts.

Internal Training & Update Program

  • Annual Certification: All technologists complete at least 10 hours/year of continuing education covering the AASM Scoring Manual, updated definitions, and policy changes.
  • Retraining Protocol: If a scorer falls below ISR thresholds, they undergo focused retraining: supervised scoring, peer coaching, video modules, and retesting until standards are met.
  • Auditable Records: Training logs, ISR scores, and performance trends are maintained and ready for regulatory review.

Continuous Quality Improvement

Our quality journey is ongoing, not periodic. We conduct process audits, review scoring feedback, integrate technologist and client inputs, and implement action plans derived from ISR outcomes and audit data. This cycle of review, action, and improvement underpins our promise of consistent excellence.

FAQ

Answers to our frequently asked questions

We follow the latest AASM scoring guidelines, including pediatric rules when applicable. If a client has custom scoring protocols, we align our methodology accordingly.
Standard TAT : 24–48 hours
Expedited scoring available upon request.
Yes. We assign dedicated scorers/technicians to each lab to ensure consistency in scoring style, workflow familiarity, and long-term quality alignment. Backup scorers are trained in parallel and can step in when required to maintain turnaround time without compromising quality.
Yes. We follow a multi-level QA workflow including:
  • Initial scoring
  • Secondary review for select studies
  • Random audits each month
  • Performance tracking and feedback loops
Our scoring accuracy typically maintains >90–95% agreement with client benchmarks. Specific metrics may vary based on platform, scoring type, and validation phases.
Yes. We offer a pilot scoring batch to evaluate alignment with client standards before full-scale onboarding.
We maintain:
  • Backup scorers and redundant staffing
  • Shift-based coverage across time zones
  • Load monitoring and scheduling dashboards
We follow HIPAA-compliant operations including:
  • Secure encrypted file transfer (SFTP/VPN/portal access)
  • No local data retention beyond processing
  • Confidentiality agreements with all staff
  • Access restricted on a need-to-know basis
Yes, we perform manual scoring. By default, all studies are manually scored in accordance with AASM guidelines to ensure accuracy and consistency. If required by the client, we can incorporate auto-scoring as an initial step through supported software platforms; however, all auto-scored data will still undergo a full manual review and validation by our technicians before final submission.
Sleep study data can be transferred through secure, HIPAA-compliant channels depending on client preference and workflow setup. Common methods include:
1. Secure File Transfer
  • Encrypted cloud storage (e.g., SFTP, OneDrive, SharePoint, Google Drive)
  • Secure FTP/SFTP servers
  • Encrypted file-sharing platforms approved by the client
  • This method involves downloading studies locally for scoring and uploading completed files and reports back through the same secure channel.
2. Direct Access to Client System
Many clients prefer scoring to be done directly within their own infrastructure to avoid data movement. This is typically done through:
  • VPN Access
  • Remote Desktop (RDP)
  • Virtual Machine (VM) environments
  • Cloud-based scoring platforms with user logins
In this model, scorers log into the client’s system and work directly on their platforms, ensuring data never leaves the client environment.
